Terms of service

Effective October 31, 2026. These terms are an agreement between you and Northpine Labs LLC, the US company that runs Family Chart Maker. Please read them before you buy.

Who we are

Family Chart Maker (familychartmaker.com) is a product of Northpine Labs LLC (“we”, “us”). By using the site you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site. The site isn’t meant for children under 13, and if you’re under 18, a parent or guardian should make any purchase.

The service

Family Chart Maker is a tool in your web browser for making family tree charts. You type your family in or import a GEDCOM file, choose a chart type (descendants, ancestors or hourglass), a look and a paper size, and see a preview. You can then buy a print file of the chart. There are no accounts.

Free use

  • Building charts, every chart type, look and size, and the on-screen preview are free. The preview carries a watermark.
  • The blank family tree template is free to download, print and copy for yourself, your family or a class.
  • You don’t need to give us your name, email address or payment details to use the free parts.

Buying a print file

  • A print file costs $12 per chart, in US dollars, paid once through Stripe Checkout. There’s no subscription and nothing renews.
  • You get a vector PDF of your chart (sharp up to 24×36 inches) and a 300-dpi PNG, both without the watermark.
  • Stripe processes the payment under its own terms. We never see your card number.
  • We may change the price in the future. A change never affects a purchase you’ve already made.

What “one chart” means

One purchase covers one chart of one family. For 30 days after you pay, you can change that chart and download it again as often as you like, free, as long as it’s still the same family. That includes:

  • fixing typos in names and years,
  • adding or removing relatives (up to twice the number of people in the chart you bought, plus 10),
  • switching to another look or paper size,
  • switching to another chart type of the same family.

A chart of a different family is a new purchase. The app checks this by comparing the names of the people drawn on your edited chart with the names on the chart you bought (so type the names before you buy). If most of the original names are gone, or the chart has grown far beyond the one you bought, it asks you to buy a new chart. If you think it got this wrong, email us at support@familychartmaker.com and we’ll sort it out.

Delivery

  • Your files are ready to download in the app right after payment. Nothing is shipped; printing is up to you.
  • After payment the app also shows a download link that works for 30 days. Anyone with that link can download your chart, so keep it private.
  • After 30 days, downloads and free edits end and we delete the stored chart. Keep copies of your files.

Refunds

If you’re not happy, email support@familychartmaker.com within 14 days of your purchase and we’ll refund you in full, no questions asked. After a refund, the download link and re-downloads stop working, and we delete the stored chart within a few hours. Our refund policy has the details.

Your family data

You own the names, years and other details you enter or import. You give us permission only to process them to draw and deliver your chart: the preview, the print files, and re-downloads for 30 days after payment. We don’t use your family data for anything else, and we never sell or share it. How we handle it is explained in our privacy policy.

Your charts are yours to print, frame, copy, share and give away. Please only enter information you have the right to use, and be thoughtful about details of living relatives.

Everything else on the site, including the app, the chart looks and layouts, and the blank template, belongs to Northpine Labs LLC. You may use the template as described above, but please don’t sell it or present it as your own.

Acceptable use

Please don’t:

  • try to get the clean print file without paying, or remove or hide the watermark on previews;
  • try to reach charts, files or download links that aren’t yours;
  • overload or disrupt the site, for example with automated requests or scraping;
  • upload files that contain malware or that you don’t have the right to use;
  • use the service for anything unlawful, or to harass or defame real people.

We may block access that breaks these rules.

Accuracy

We draw what you enter or import. We don’t check names, dates or relationships, and we aren’t responsible for mistakes in your data or in the files you import. Some details in GEDCOM files aren’t drawn, such as adoption marks, divorces, places, notes and photos. Please check your chart before you pay and before you print. How a print looks also depends on the printer and paper you choose.

Availability

We work to keep the site running, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, add or remove features. If something goes wrong with a purchase, email us and we’ll help.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Northpine Labs LLC isn’t liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or lost profits, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us for the chart the claim is about. Some places don’t allow these limits; where that’s the case, they apply only as far as the law permits.

Other companies’ names

Ancestry, MyHeritage, FamilySearch and the other genealogy sites and programs named on this site are trademarks of their owners. Family Chart Maker is not affiliated with or endorsed by them. Names and dates on sample charts are made up.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we’ll change the effective date at the top of this page. Changes apply from that date and don’t change the terms of a purchase you’ve already made. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.

Disputes

These terms, and any dispute about them or the service, are handled under the laws of the United States and of the state where Northpine Labs LLC is registered. Before anything formal, please email us; most problems can be solved quickly that way.
